Cancer Immunotherapy Index Information
DEFINITION: The Cancer
Immunotherapy Index is an index of initially 10 companies known by Mentor Capital and judged to be substantially
and predominantly involved in the cancer immunotherapy sector. A company that is not yet large enough or a company
that is already larger but involved in mostly other things will not be included in the CI Index. Companies
that grow, become more specialized in cancer immunotherapy or become better known to Mentor Capital may be added to
the Index over time. Mathematically, the Index is calculated and presented based upon a theoretical
$1,000 investment in each CI Index company starting at the time of Index formation on July 10, 2009, with
mathematical adjustments for the addition of new companies. This is a copyrighted but free publication
created by Mentor Capital, Inc. and regularly published on a weekly basis. The original and continuing intent
is to answer the question, "How is the Cancer Immunotherapy Sector doing as a whole?"
HISTORY: On July 10, 2009 Mentor
Capital announced it had entered into a funding agreement with Quantum Immunologics, Inc. a private cancer
immunotherapy company. Negotiations began to fulfill Mentor Capital's overall intent to acquire Quantum by
merger, with Quantum operating management continuing to run operations and Mentor management in charge of
finance. An immediate question was 'How is Quantum doing compared to comparable companies?' Because the
sector was so new there was no applicable index for comparison. To fill that void, Mentor Capital management
created the original Cancer Immunotherapy Index of 10 companies, in consultation with Mike Havrilla, PhD, to
establish that comparative industry benchmark.
In mid-December 2009, Mentor decided to invest not only in Quantum, with an aim at
acquisition, but also in the other Cancer Immunotherapy companies. This is highlighted so it is clear that Mentor
Capital is not a proxy for the Index. Rather, Mentor Capital is unfettered in its ability to employ its
capital for maximum shareholder value. It has identified that some of the companies now in the Cancer
Immunotherapy Index, and others that may be added, seem to have attractive medical or financial potential for
Mentor Capital investment via stock purchase or acquisition.
DENDREON (DNDN) CONNECTION: It would be
incomplete to not address the strong relationship between CI Index member Dendreon and the Cancer Immunotherapy
Index. The financial community was alerted to the Cancer Immunotherapy Sector when Dendreon (DNDN) experienced a
1,000% price appreciation over 45 days during March and April of 2009. That increased the Dendreon market cap from
$250 Million to $2.5 Billion. The Cancer Immunotherapy Index was born at the start of the very next quarter.
Dendreon represents over 70% of the market capitalization of all CI Index companies.
NO INVESTMENT ADVISORY DISCLAIMER:
Readers are cautioned that Mentor Capital does not intend this Cancer Immunotherapy Index to be investment
advice. The CI Index is a mathematical, information only index that has been published on a regular weekly
basis since inception. The original and continuing purpose is to establish a benchmark as to how the Cancer
Immunotherapy Sector as a whole has behaved. As such, it presents historic information and does not purport
nor imply any opinion as to the value of any stock. Always see your your investment adviser before buying
MNTR or any CI Index stocks.
